About the authors
trey anthony is the playwright of 'da Kink in my hair. She is also the co-creator and co-producer of the television drama Kink in my hair, based loosely on the play which aired on Vision Television and Global TV. trey is a published playwright and her work has been seen in numerous publications. trey is a former television producer for The Womenâ??s Television Network, WTN, and has written for the Comedy Network and CTV and worked on The Chris Rock Show (HBO). She is also the executive producer of Canadaâ??s Urban Womynâ??s Comedy Festival, 'dat girl sho is funny! The festival is an annual sold-out event and features women of colour comediennes. She is a 2002 Canadian Comedy Award nominee and in 2004 she was nominated for a Dora. She is busy working on her first screenplay, a hip hop love story and the sequel to 'da Kink in my hair. In her spare time she enjoys pushing boundaries, questioning and redefining â??the rules,â?? creating safe spaces for womyn, and giving â??Voiceâ?? to those not often heard.
Frances Koncan is a writer of mixed Anishinaabe and Slovene descent from Couchiching First Nation in Treaty 3 territory, and currently living and working on Treaty 1 territory in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She learned to write by fighting with adults on the Internet in the late ’90s before Internet safety was a consideration. Their theatrical career began in 2007 when they saw a production of The Threepenny Opera starring Alan Cumming and he accidently touched her shoulder. In her free time, she likes playing video games and adding expensive luxury goods to her online shopping cart with no intention of ever checking out.
Yvette Nolan is a playwright, dramaturge, and director. In 1996, she was the Aboriginal Writer-in-Residence at Brandon University, where she wrote the first draft of Annie Mae’s Movement. Her other plays include BLADE, Job’s Wife, Video, the libretto Hilda Blake, and the radio play Owen. She is also the editor of Beyond the Pale: Dramatic Writing from First Nations Writers and Writers of Colour and co-editor of Refractions: Solo and Refractions: Scenes. She was the president of Playwrights Union of Canada from 1998–2001, and of Playwrights Canada Press from 2003–2005. Born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan to an Algonquin mother and an Irish immigrant father, raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, she lived in the Yukon and Nova Scotia before moving to Toronto.
